This intensive 3-day continuing education course is designed for general practitioners and specialists who want to expand their knowledge, confidence, and surgical skills in hard- and soft-tissue management around teeth and dental implants.
The course combines biologic principles, treatment planning, surgical technique, and extensive hands-on training. The goal is not simply to teach individual procedures, but to help clinicians understand why, when, and how to select the appropriate surgical approach for each clinical situation.
Mucogingival Diagnosis & Treatment Planning
Develop a deeper understanding of the biology, diagnosis, and treatment planning of mucogingival defects around teeth and implants, including the scientific principles that influence surgical predictability and long-term stability.
Root Coverage & Gingival Augmentation
Review the fundamental principles of root coverage and soft-tissue augmentation around natural teeth and implants. Attendees will learn how to develop a practical decision-making tree to help select the appropriate procedure based on the anatomy and clinical defect.
Recipient & Donor Site Management
Learn proper recipient-site preparation, graft stabilization, donor-site management, and harvesting techniques including:
Free Gingival Grafts (FGG)
Connective Tissue Grafts (CTG)
Vascularized Interpositional Periosteal Connective Tissue Grafts (VIP-CTG)
Donor-site protection and postoperative management
Autogenous Grafts vs. Soft-Tissue Substitutes
Explore the indications, advantages, limitations, and clinical applications of autogenous tissue and allograft materials for root coverage, implant coverage, and soft-tissue volume augmentation.
Hard-Tissue Augmentation
Review the biologic and clinical considerations for selecting autogenous bone, allografts, and xenografts for different bone-augmentation procedures.
Flap Design, Release & Wound Closure
Understand the surgical principles required to obtain passive flap advancement and predictable primary closure, including:
Buccal flap release
Lingual flap release
Periosteal and muscular release
Flap advancement and stabilization
Primary wound closure
Suturing strategies for soft- and hard-tissue procedures
Complication Management & Esthetic Recovery
Learn how to recognize, prevent, and manage common postoperative complications and how to approach the recovery of compromised soft- and hard-tissue esthetics.
A major emphasis of this course is hands-on surgical training. Over the three days, participants will perform procedures on surgical models and pig jaws, allowing each concept discussed during the lecture portion to be translated into practical surgical experience.
Hands-on exercises will include:
Free gingival graft procedures
Root coverage procedures
Connective tissue harvesting
Donor- and recipient-site preparation
Graft positioning and stabilization
Surgical suturing techniques
Bone augmentation procedures
Resorbable membrane placement
Buccal flap release
Lingual flap release
Techniques for achieving passive primary closure
The objective is for participants to leave the course with not only a stronger understanding of the biology behind periodontal and implant plastic surgery, but also a systematic surgical approach they can incorporate into everyday clinical practice.
Participants will receive 24 CE credits upon completion of the course.
Refunds are available for cancellations made at least 30 days prior to the course date.
